YORK
York Team Lead: John Rhodes
A Word from John
York is a vibrant city with several evangelical churches all of which see the need to reach out to the youth of the city. In particular, Clifton Parish Church and St Andrew’s, Huntington, have partnered with UK-USA Ministries and Greater Europe Mission to help them in this endeavor.
LOVING THE PEOPLE OF YORK
Outreach includes holding drop-in sessions at both churches where students on their way home from school can call in for a snack/drink – gentle relationship building. For those showing interest, both churches run youth groups centered around playing games and studying the Bible.
The churches also have connections with local high schools being able to take assemblies, support RE lessons, and attend the Christian Union meetings. When American mission teams are in they become a part of this ongoing ministry by going into the schools during the day and hosting after-school activities.
GOD STORIES
In 2023, we had two American mission teams plus one on a vision trip to visit York. Both mission teams were well prepared and both received glowing reports from the schools they visited. St Andrew’s Church utilised their mission team to round off the week with a youth night which they were able to advertise in the schools. Over 80 young people turned up and at the end of the evening, 4 young people gave their lives to Christ – a cause for great rejoicing!
OUR PRAYER
The city church leaders meet for prayer every week to bathe the city in prayer and we are seeing God at work. The youth leaders of all denominations also meet up regularly to pray and to plan joint events. Young people are being reached with the Gospel and lives are being changed.
